Latency testing and node selection

Latency is only one signal when picking nodes. This guide covers how to test, how to read the results, and a few practical selection principles.

How to test

  1. On the Proxies page, click the lightning icon next to a group to batch-test its latency.
  2. Individual nodes can be tested one-off on hover.
  3. The “Tests” page additionally checks connectivity to common websites.

Reading results and picking nodes

The number is the round-trip time to a test endpoint: under 300 ms generally feels fine; “timeout” means the node is currently unusable. Principles: geographically closer nodes tend to be steadier; pick region-labeled nodes for streaming services; prioritize low latency and low packet loss for gaming; for large downloads, bandwidth matters more than raw latency.
